In any business, conflicts will arise. Whether these are personal conflicts or other conflicts (supplier issues, etc.), knowing how to deal with them can be difficult, and sometimes, as a way of reaction, entrepreneurs will just brush problems under the rug and ignore them. However, this is probably one of the worst ways you can react. Refusing to deal with a problem doesn’t make it go away.
If you’re dealing with a technical issue - like the aforementioned supplier one - there is likely a solution that you just haven’t seen yet. Have a brainstorming session with others in your shared office space to find solutions. No idea is too crazy! Remove the pressure for people to come up with the perfect idea immediately, as often in brainstorming sessions, one person will suggest something that wouldn’t work - but it might spark an idea in someone else that turns out to be the solution. Be sure to take notes so that you can refer back to your ideas and possible solutions.

A conversation on mobile workers and the explosion of virtual offices with Laurent Dhollande, CEO of Cloud Virtual Offices, and Scott Chambers, Managing Partner of Pacific Business Centers. (Reposted from Executive Suite Success Magazine, September 2011)
Revved Results (RR): Laurent, we knew you before as CEO of Pacific Business Centers in California. Why this move to Cloud Virtual Offices?
Laurent Dhollande (LD): Virtual offices have been a growing business for several years, built on the strength of home-based entrepreneurs and virtual companies. What is really significant today is that corporate workers are joining in, as they leave their corporate offices in droves, thanks to mobile tools, social media, life-style choices, and their company’s desire to eliminate dedicated office space. I could not resist the business opportunity this mega-trend represents for Cloud Virtual Offices. We are building a service platform with our OBC and technology partners to support mobile workers seamlessly where ever they need to do work.
RR: Scott, are you replacing Laurent as CEO of Pacific Business Centers?
Scott Chambers (SC): We haven’t sorted out this quite yet but we really have a collegial approach, with a group of six Managing Partners including myself running Pacific Business Centers. That won’t change.

Personnel Today and Computer Weekly reported that Tim Ringo, head of IBM Human Capital Management, said that IBM could reduce its workforce by 299,000 down to 100,000 by 2017.
IBM would then rehire the workers, on an as-needed basis, as contractors for specific projects and use “crowdsourcing” as a vehicle to decrease cost and increase corporate nimbleness and efficiency. IBM has since denied they had any definitive plan to do so.
The statement has launched a flurry of excitement, debates, and controversy, particularly in the worlds of Human Resources, Corporate Planning, and office building owners. Is the rumor unfounded? Or was IBM deliberately floating the idea to gauge reaction and prepare their PR machine? How will this impact the world of corporate real estate?

Local budget shortfalls are driving city governments to take desperate steps with significant implications on commercial real estate values.
Despair can sometimes take unexpected forms. On one hand, conservative cities in Texas are raising taxes, while San Francisco is rumored to be slashing its welfare budget. The end of the world as we know it? Fortunately for our sanity, San Francisco has the good manner to remind us that everything is not totally upside down: the City Government is also looking at opportunities to raise taxes.
I read today in the San Francisco Business Times that San Francisco is considering a new tax on commercial rents. Some of the numbers discussed range between 1.4 and 2%. Who will pay and how will this impact the business landscape?

I’m really excited to welcome a new managing partner, Mr. Sasha Poljak, CEO of ValleyHQ, into Pacific Business Center’s management team! If you have had a chance to meet Sasha or visit his Bakersfield office space, you know what an honor it is to have him on our team.
It was only two short years ago that I began my journey with PBC - one of the best decisions of my career. Before joining PBC, when I attended an industry conference, I would hear all about the innovative things a select group of OBC operators were doing.
